Can the journal choose to increase or decrease the author fees for its authors?
Many journals are interested in implementing additional author fees to support their scholarship, the most common being submission fees (which all authors pay regardless of acceptance) and publication fees (only paid when a work is accepted, and often tied to Open Access publishing policies).
Currently, journals need to contact Scholastica in order to implement these kinds of additional fees, but down the road journal editors will have one-click options to configure their author fee system.
Similarly, if a journal wanted to subsidize the Scholastica submission fee for their authors, the journal can pay the entire fee and thus reduce the author's submission fee to zero. If a journal wanted to only partly reduce the author's fee by paying part of the fee, the journal would need to contact Scholastica in order to configure such an option.
