The Journal: Trends in Organized Crime is seeking manuscripts and reviewers for a special topic edition on Prison Gangs as Organized Crime. This is a peer-reviewed journal in its nineteenth year of publication. The journal’s audience includes those working in academia as well as criminal justice practitioners. This is an international journal affiliated with the International Association for the Study of Organized Crime (IASOC). The editors for this special edition, Rajeev Gundur (ray@iasoc.net) and Rebecca Trammell (rtrammel@msudenver.edu), are the primary contact people for all inquiries.
Aims and Scopes: Our goal is to publish a special edition focusing on prison gangs, as organized crime, from an international perspective. Both qualitative and quantitative work will be considered. We would like to include work focusing on both male and female gang members, including studies focusing on people outside of prison who work with prison gang members to facilitate organized crime. We encourage practitioners to submit manuscripts. Topics could focus on all aspects of organized underground economies in the prison setting as well as prison to neighborhood crime networks. Book reviews will be considered as long as the book is applicable for this special topic. All work should be submitted in English.
In addition, we seek reviewers for this special edition who would be willing to participate in the double-blind review process.
Early Abstracts: In order to make the submission process as smooth as possible we encourage people to send an abstract (no more than 300 words) and your contact information to the editors of this special edition. The deadline for these abstracts is December 1, 2016. We can then determine specific themes emerging from the existing research. Those who are interested are encouraged to send an abstract to: gangs@iasoc.net.
Guidelines for Final Submission: The deadline for submission is June 15, 2017. To submit a manuscript, upload the complete manuscript, including an abstract, any tables, and references online to http://www.editorialmanager.com/tioc/default.aspx. For manuscript type, select “Prison Gangs as Organized Crime.”
Also include a cover letter stating that the manuscript is not under review or published in any other outlet. Please see “instructions for authors” for further details, including how to format your manuscript, at http://www.springer.com/social+sciences/criminology/journal/12117.
Reviewers: Those wanting to be an external reviewer for this special edition should contact the above editors at: gangs@iasoc.net with your contact information and three to four keywords that describe your specific expertise. Graduate students and practitioners are also encouraged to participate as reviewers.
